Kim Randle

With a long standing personal commitment to preventative health, including regular medical checkups and screenings, it was quite a shock to be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017, less than a year from my last mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy. To complicate matters further, the news came on the heels of the one year anniversary of my own father’s death from pancreatic cancer. I soon learned that I had a genetic mutation that pre-disposes me to two different types of cancer, increasing my risk for future diagnoses and recurrence. It was a rude awakening that set in motion immediate and long term behavior changes, as well as months of chemotherapy, punctuated by two major surgeries.

With undeniable prevenient grace, God took a devastating turn of events – a cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment – and transformed it into a new purpose, possibility, passion and resilient HOPE! I will forever be indebted to a top-notch medical team that delivered HOPE and was dedicated 100 percent and beyond to ensuring their patients’ success, and to forging future breakthroughs for all those that follow in our footsteps. My brave fellow cancer sojourners inspired me continuously with their HOPE, tenacity and perseverance. Devoted family, loved ones, friends and my faith community showered me with HOPE and prayers as they pulled out all the stops to love and care for me every step of the way. Hope Cancer Resources colleagues, board members and volunteers encircled me with HOPE and gave me wings and a platform to share every day the power of HOPE, and the unique, very personal stories of cancer patients and their families, who just like me—are living today with everything we’ve got, and clinging to HOPE for tomorrow.
